Mercury, retrograde, in Cancer is somewhat alienated in its own ways—for instance, Mercury doesn’t enjoy feelings whereas Cancerian energies source all reality through feelings and emotions; Mercury remains typically detached and unencumbered whereas Cancerian energies seemingly thrive on attachments; Mercury knows no bounds whereas Cancerian energies are quite guarded with boundaries.

The month-long Mercury/Mars relationship, in regard to Mercury being uncomfortable in Cancer while Mars is quite strengthened in Aries, suggests, among many things, that a direct, potentially confrontational, and somewhat aggressive manner of connection or communication could bombard an already somewhat confounded or complicated thought-feeling process or otherwise personally preferred method of making sense of one’s reality.

Keeping a solid connection with one’s higher self, with All That It, is key… we are living in extreme times.

Another potentially vicious side effect of an upcoming nearly-month-long connection between Mercury in Cancer and Mars in Aries is using words as weapons. Granted, a constructive use of this energy would be a more direct and confident expression of voice and opinion… but used as a weapon—and our current structural reality, sadly, lends itself rather easily to the shadowy inclinations of current energies—turns this energy quite contentious, manipulative, bitter, and just plain nasty.

It’s also essential to note that this month’s quarterly lunations are both governed by Mars—the last quarter moon in Aries on July 12th and the first quarter moon in Scorpio on July 27th… and quarterly moons are already somewhat confrontational and urging—so Mars, moving through the thoughtless bravado of  Aries, will definitely enhance and intensify these natural inclinations.

Ultimately and overall—practicing patience, with yourself and with one another couldn’t be stressed enough… irritations will be easy to come by and we will all be navigating unknown territories with thorns of some nature lodged in our sides, scared, not knowing when that second shoe will drop.

Listen to your instincts, be gentle with yourself through any and all confrontations—as the essence of Mercury in Cancer and Mars in Aries coming together by square is trying to teach an initiative of action through thoughtful, mindful compassion… mean what you say and say what you mean, but do try to be kind; and remember that we’re all managing through these times, both alone and together, simultaneously.
