HONORING ENDINGS & BEGINNINGS

HONORING ENDINGS & BEGINNINGS

Forecast for Sunday, August 9th
Aries/Taurus Disseminating Moon

★Oracular Overview—once and for all fully embracing these transitions we’re both individually and collectively embarking upon, and striving for better through conscious intentions, forward movements and mindful actions…

The Romans actually had a god for the act of transitions—the god of beginnings and endings—an icon of this god even embellished every doorway and passageway, as these directly, if not suggestively, imply an entrance and means of departure, facing two ways simultaneously… this ‘custodian of the universe’ was the two-faced Janus, the god ‘who looked both ways’…

❝I believe in inhabiting contradictions, I believe in making contradictions productive, not in having to choose one side or the other side. As opposed to choosing either or choosing both.❞
——Angela Y. Davis

Janus was the gatekeeper, much like Charon to the Underworld or Vesta to the hearth and home—to illustrate his importance his name was uttered before Jupiter, or Zeus, god of the gods… Janus protected the beginnings of all activities, and if invoked, rewarded these beginnings.

Janus is the one and only god who was only Roman, having no previously Greek counterpart—further demonstrating this sacred emphasis upon the universal beginning and ending.

Janus was named for January, specifically, the first month of the new year, but also ruled over the beginnings of each and every month as a rule… January, naturally, falls in Capricorn, a sign ruled by Saturn, and it should be no surprise that many myths surrounding Janus include Saturn in collaboration; Saturn represents time itself, Janus represents the beginning, ending, transitions throughout and additional wisdoms learned through time itself; quite the dynamic duo, indeed.

Since July 5th the monthly lunar conjunction to Saturn shifted back into Capricorn, thereby impacting again, and celestially reviving past impacts from as recently as March 21st and as far back as December of 2017… we are upon the ‘messy middle’ stage in these transitions—from Now through December—to once and for all fully embrace these transitions we’re both individually and collectively embarking upon.

❝I am no longer accepting the things I cannot change. I am changing the things I cannot accept.❞
——Angela Y. Davis

January of 2021 will offer an entirely new reality beyond where we’re currently navigating… in January, Janus’ month, Not Yet will truly be Now.

Today the moon connects to Mars by conjunction, thereby illuminating a square back to both Jupiter and Pluto through the day as Mars continues applying its square to Pluto, exact next Wednesday—which would suggest that yet another crisis of consciousness, or magnification of the ‘messy middle’, or exploitation of vulnerabilities is building, occurring, or piquing… to the Romans, any refusal to honor one’s transitions would be blasphemously sacrilegious within the Roman society at that time, not to mention spiritual heresy against Zeus himself in a very personal way.

Furthermore, to deny yourself your transitions you would severely lack an inner motivation and that magical component of sparking can-do…

I stumbled upon a way to honor Janus through these transitions, a ritual* which could be acted out at the beginning of the year, or upon the beginning of anything—a new phase, a new cycle, or a new project or goal.

Much like a list of gratitude, or meditative mantra, this simple act in honoring involves the writing down of your desires or intentions toward your new goal, project, cycle, or phase… underneath your overall ideal, answer the following:

—how will your desire or intention benefit you?
—how will your desire or intention benefit those close to you?
—how will your desire or intention benefit the world?
—what must you release to bring this about?
—what must you become to bring this about?
—what supports are you requesting from the archetypal Janus toward this desire or intention?

To symbolically seal your desires and intentions, you then create something, such as an art object, vial, trinket, pendant, or talisman, and include your piece of paper within or around or as the creation itself—attach this to <you’ve guessed it> a doorway, the doorway you use most frequently, if not the entrance to your home. Touch it every time you come or go, which will symbolically ‘activate’ your desire or intention, activating the change, newness, and potential toward what is to come for you.

*I would advise against doing this when the moon is applying or connecting directly to Mars, but rather, perhaps after the moon is appropriately separating from Mars, after early morning hours on the west coast.

❝You have to act as if it were possible to radically transform the world. And you have to do it all the time.❞
——Angela Y. Davis

Today marks a subtle shift in beginnings, activating of its own accord changes which will take us through the end of the year and into the next, changing you through these changes and shifts and transitions, indeed.

As the moon illuminates Mars in conjunction today we are reminded that all change begins with movement, with an action, a first step… may your first steps be blessed, your intentions or desires be right, and your transition as smooth or as momentous as you need it to be—and may you be unapologetically authentic in the authorship of your ideal, and may you choose the face of love over the face of fear… toward the future, not the past.

❝Sometimes we have to do the work even though we don’t yet see a glimmer on the horizon that it’s actually going to be possible.❞
——Angela Y. Davis
