HEALING AMBIVALENCE

HEALING AMBIVALENCE

Forecast for Tuesday, September 1st
Pisces Full Moon

★Oracular Overview—an inspired readiness to rise to the occasion…

Joseph Campbell said that “if you follow your bliss, you put yourself on a kind of track, which has been there all the while waiting for you, and the life that you ought to be living is the one you are living…”

Today’s Piscean full moon reminds us to follow our bliss.

Rudhyar’s take on the tenth degree of Pisces—the degree through which this full moon occurs—is that of “man’s ability to develop powers and skills which by transcending natural limitations allow him to operate in mental-spiritual realms… [through] the capacity inherent in every individual to seek at whatever cost entrance to a transcendent realm of reality…”¹

The word transcend comes from the Latin root ‘trānscendere’, meaning ‘to surmount; to climb beyond’… associating quite neatly today’s definition, ‘to rise above or go beyond; overpass; exceed; to transcend the limits of thought; kindness transcends courtesy’.

It is necessary in most cases—within authentic circumstances—to transcend the ordinary and routine realities, the conditioning and comfort zone, the grind, and all the expectations, and even the self-defined or socially oppressive obligations… before the notion of ‘following your bliss’ can be honored.

And it is necessary now, “to transcend what’s going on and to rise above difficulties… you may find that you have to rely on your intellectual or emotional skills to take you above and beyond your current situation—just be aware that you may not be seeing the complete picture very clearly at the moment; alternatively, you may be evading the real truth.”²

❝If you are lucky enough to find a way of life you love, you have to find the courage to live it.❞
——John Irving

Today’s moon is both the Healer’s Moon (as assigned by Raven Kaldera³) and the Harvest Moon (as traditional folklore and historical almanacs concur…) and it’s likely to be an all-around magical moon, only building, or reaping—er, transcending—upon the recent Leo new moon (August 18th at 26°)—upon trust, faith, and illuminated potentials…

And the healing detail upon this moon, throughout these current energies, offers a glimpse—both backward, where you’ve recently emerged from, and forward, toward where you’re heading and upon who you’re becoming through these seemingly endless and unexpected events and situational twists and turns.

Healing is quite necessary, too, as much as is transcending beyond your current limitations—those either sturdied or strung up within your own mind and making, or those which are factual and seemingly out of your control—and to dutifully do what needs to be done, despite it all.

❝It is our duty as men and women to proceed as though the limits of our abilities do not exist. We are collaborators in creation.❞
——Pierre Teilhard de Chardin

Interestingly, it was on March 9th earlier this year that the Virgo full moon occurred at 19° with Neptune conjunct the sun, emphasizing so many unknowns and confusions—when the dreamy sun was in Pisces and the moon moved through Virgo in opposition… while today, the self-caring sun is in dutiful Virgo and the moon moves through Pisces in opposition.

What happened only several days beyond March 9th? Hmm… that’s a real thinker *face plant in hand*

Have you been given a moment of certainty, relief, or normalcy since March?

My post from the Virgo full moon in March offered that “everything is both what it is, and what it isn’t—typically, but currently—everything is both what it is, and what it could be…” which is so creepy to me, as ‘it is what it is’ has now become something of a common phrase this year, and not necessarily in a good way, and much more ‘what it could be’ seemingly speaks to the never-mentioned skunk hole of wonderland this year has become—

What’s true anymore?

We haven’t seen a clear picture, or clarified a clear understanding, of anything about anything regarding anything in quite awhile…

It is now, in this spiritual standstill, that change needs to begin within you—as these changes, and efforts of improvement, will begin to reflect themselves in various manifestations all around you.

❝I got what I needed instead of what I wanted and that’s just about the best kind of luck you can have.❞
——Cormac McCarthy

A Virgoan-inspired detail toward Piscean moons offers… that when being influenced through lunarly Piscean energies, we don’t know “if [we] are having [our] own feelings or those of the person that [we] are currently talking to, or living with, or thinking about… it is too easy to lose [ourselves] in someone else’s world-view, and because of this tide pulling [us] back and forth—what [we] feel, what others feel—emotional ambivalence is the hallmark of this existence.”⁴

Ambivalence is abound these days…

What is ambivalence, exactly?—it’s ‘having mixed feelings about someone or something: or relating to the coexistence within an individual of positive and negative feelings toward the same person, object, or action, simultaneously drawing him or her in opposite directions… uncertainty or fluctuation, especially when caused by inability to make a choice or by a simultaneous desire to say or do two opposite or conflicting things.’

Again. Many of us are struggling with what’s neither up nor down, or is it?—wait, it is… nope, nevermind. I don’t know anymore.

And on and on and on.

It’s exhausting.

An article I stumbled upon when researching today’s energies offers a very long list⁵ of all the reasons one may feel ambivalent, from a clinically psychological perspective… these include feelings of shame, guilt, a lack of support, stigmas, denial, withdrawal, a fear of treating the symptoms or the cause, fears toward change, a lack of acceptance or trust from others, low self-confidence, being fearful of oneself, anxiety toward illusions of living in one’s own world, or a hostile world, a lack of financial resources, feelings of isolation, or dependency issues, a non-supportive family environment, mixed messages all around, dilemmas or hangups with perfection, and job loss or other risk…

I would imagine, both collectively and individually, we have acquired a fair share of ambivalence since March… what to do, what not to do?—what’s ‘right’ and what is ‘wrong’!?

It is agreed among psychologists that “a certain degree of ambivalence is normal and healthy—in fact, moderate ambivalent thinkers are thought to be emotionally and intellectually mature…” this pair of words again—emotion and intellect, working together, collaboratively, in tandem—heart and mind; open-heartedness and open-mindedness—yes?… and that “moderate ambivalent thinkers are able to recognize and appreciate the world with all its complexities and imperfections… chronic ambivalence, however, is what interferes with our ability to move forward—chronic ambivalence results in a rigid cycling pattern where we find ourselves constantly moving from one side of the decision fence to the other—when this happens, ambivalence becomes an emotional and psychological barrier to achieving genuine happiness.”⁶

This article⁶ also offered four tips to help you cope with ambivalence, and may offer you simple ways of working through a process of healing:

—write down your ambivalent feelings and the circumstances in which they occur

—remind yourself that no person or situation is perfect and that all people and circumstances have both positive and negative aspects

—recognize and accept your ambivalent feelings · do not force yourself to make a rash decision

—consider seeking professional help in order to help you examine and sort out your ambivalent feelings, if necessary

❝Beware of what disturbs the heart… if something unsettles your heart, then abandon it.❞
——Ibn Mas’ud

Astrologer Pam Younghans offers that “a Pisces Full Moon is designed to expand our spiritual awareness, and to help us connect more consciously with our creative muse… it invites us to spend time in meditation, to open our hearts in compassion and understanding, and to access higher guidance—but, because the Sun is in down-to-earth Virgo, we can also ground our experience and bring it into the “real world,” rather than having it fade like a dream upon awakening… the Moon partakes of the energies of two fixed stars for this lunation, being situated at the midpoint of Delta Aquarii and Lambda Aquarii—what can we expect with these stars being activated?”⁷

Younghans then offers some insights from “The Magic of the Stars”, by Roderick Kidston to address her own ponder:

Delta Aquarii: the crucial issue here is how focused your wishes are—if they are too vague or changeable, it will be hard to get the diamond-point clarity which is one of the aims of higher meditation practice

Lambda Aquarii: there is a gift for understanding the currents of life and for moving in swift, supple alignment with whatever direction suits your flow—be careful of self-absorption, which focuses the nobler instincts of this star inwardly and personally, resulting in a ‘failure to launch’ and giving rise to melancholia

May you be inspired to rise above your own perspective and ambivalence upon things—and acknowledge the true and authentic potentials much more clearly, ‘translating your highest self-image into everyday behavior’⁸.

May your feelings and thoughts toward your limitations be muted a bit, blurred, and then re-inspired… and overcome through small inner adjustments, through ‘the exploration of things from various angles’ and an overwhelming and ‘slyly playful knowingness’ through celestial supports… ‘trusting the inner eye of intuition as well as the outer eye’⁸.

May you be inspired to rise again and follow your bliss, despite it all.

May you be inspired to remember who you are, without any outer influence to bombard your soul’s instinct to rise to the occasion.

❝Rise and rise again until lambs become lions…❞
