THE PROCESS OF REALISTIC MAGICAL THINKING

THE PROCESS OF REALISTIC MAGICAL THINKING

Forecast for Monday, November 30th
Gemini Lunar Eclipse at 8°38′

ॐOracular Mantra—in balancing the imbalances through subtle shifts and strategic starts, magic occurs and remains present…

“When an idea thinks it has found somebody—say, you—who might be able to bring it into the world, the idea will pay you a visit…” says well-known author of “Eat, Pray, Love”, Elizabeth Gilbert; Gilbert believes in magical thinking, and that ideas are living, breathing things… and I think she’s on to something.

This was what I wrote to introduce last year’s Gemini full moon post, to introduce ideas as living, breathing forces of energy… and one could argue that this year begs a reminder from what was initiated last year through these similar energies—though a dramatic shift in expansion will be demanded this year—to realize and realign an underlying imbalance existing both within and abound.

There is an underlying, inner urge or instinct to rebalance. You feel it, don’t you? Mutability and cardinality, too, are debating for balance in nature…

However, ultimately, imbalances are being experienced at every turn—and all turns are either struggling, or standing still, still remaining within a precious place of pause

Energies of mutability can be experienced through the Gemini moon opposing a Sagittarian sun, the Nodes, and Neptune applying the Nodes by square, creating a t-square alignment. Remember that the resounding and reverberating mutability is suggesting inconsistency and change—in other words, these changes needing to be made within and throughout your reality are likely to be entirely inconsistent with the reality you’ve been living within throughout your year.

Please consider the idea of being very honest with yourself about these imbalances.

❝When an idea thinks it has found somebody—say, you—who might be able to bring it into the world, the idea will pay you a visit. It will try to get your attention. Mostly, you will not notice. This is likely because you’re so consumed by your own dramas, anxieties, distractions, insecurities, and duties that you aren’t receptive to inspiration.❞
——Elizabeth Gilbert

The notion of mutability is now being almost demanded, either through freedoms of movement and exchange or through an openness of personal philosophies—in daring you to openly and unapologetically chase your ideas and ideals… yet, there’s also a very convincing and unswerving intuitive grounding toward your bluer than blue horizons, toward living your ideals in reality, in real time, or within the overall rebuilding of these.

Absolutely, an open-mindedness is essential now, if not imperative.

Energies of cardinality, too, can be experienced, seemingly forevermore, through the recently reacquainted Capricorn stellium between Saturn, Jupiter, and Pluto—this tightening of cardinality is suggesting an urgency of almost carnal striving and determination, to act, to make a move—and cardinality has been the background driving force throughout this entire year—it should be no surprise to you, now, that between the willingness to explore and the urgency to act upon the willingness to explore (mutability and cardinality) that there would be an almost natural imbalance needing to be acknowledged and appropriated.

This said, determination and exploratory inconsistencies can coexist, in the right balance… in tandem with the appropriate shifts, especially so if open-mindedness is being honestly and willingly participated within.

Imbalances inevitably result in seeking a rebalance, which inevitably introduces potential for disruptions… and emotional confusions. Especially now, as Neptune and the Nodes, and a Mercurial antiscia, work magic and whimsical unknowns…

This eclipsed degree in Gemini associates itself with the requirement of “skill, courage, a true sense of confidence and the knowledge to get right to the heart of the matter facing you… you may need to examine just how prepared you are for a surprise situation.”

In other words: are you prepared for the idea of your own potential?

No, really.

❝Ideas are completely separate from us, but capable of interacting with us—albeit strangely. Ideas have no material body, but they do have consciousness, and they most certainly have will. Ideas are driven by a single impulse: to be made manifest. And the only way an idea can be made manifest in our world is through collaboration with a human partner. It is only through a human’s efforts that an idea can be escorted out of the ether and into the realm of the actual… Therefore, ideas spend eternity swirling around us, searching for available and willing human partners. I’m talking about all ideas here: artistic, scientific, industrial, commercial, ethical, religious, political.❞
——Elizabeth Gilbert

Perhaps any imbalances you’re experiencing are in an effort to alert you to the process of rebalancing whatever it is?—as this process might have in store for you incredible opportunities you might otherwise not be available for… and this is scary, and intimidating, and overwhelming, and it all ventures a bit into the unknown, doesn’t it?—or the potentially untrustworthy.

Mercury, today’s ecliptic ruler, applies and exacts a connection to Saturn by sextile through a degree which associates itself to “the capacity in man to recognize and to pay homage to an integrating Principle at the core of all existence…” which speaks to me as if to infer an integrative and normalized way to think magically…

Further, Rudhyar explains that “this rather peculiar picture tells us perhaps a good deal about the limitations of the mind of the clairvoyant who saw it, though it can be related to the symbolism of the various creatures of a spirit world mentioned in some alchemical and Rosicrucian books—what seems to be implied is that beyond both outer nature and the realm of the proud ego, a spiritual world exists to which the intuitive consciousness of man can pay allegiance; in that world, all manifested entities are seen as multiple aspects of a central Power and Consciousness—it is such a central principle of unity that human societies have sought to revere symbolically…”

Disruptions can be delicious and delightful, remember… it’s just that all of these inner needs for change feel so extreme—and they are—the confusions can lie within the not knowing, simply and naturally: because it’s unfamiliar.

So many questions, and very few answers. Trust, now, is importunate.

Are you getting in your own way?

❝You need to learn how to select your thoughts just the same way you select your clothes every day. This is a power you can cultivate. If you want to control things in your life so bad, work on the mind. That’s the only thing you should be trying to control.❞
——Elizabeth Gilbert

There is an obviousness of imbalance occurring—either directly within your immediate environment, or personal circumstances or somewhat indirectly among the outer world, through the harshness of reality… however, changes are needing to be made, and perhaps more penetratingly—solutions are needing to be suggested, and implemented, and trusted.

There is a foreshadowed revival of faith, but not without some shifts in thought…

For the time being, ideas and ideals alike are either lacking in something vital, not exactly emerging, or yet to even be honestly explored—honestly, meaning: stunned disbelief or perpetuated inability to trust. Conflicts, frustrations, and disruptions are likely—inspiring something of a personal revolution, however, possibly even on a collective level, through the collective consciousness.

Ideas and ideals will need to be (re)sparked, explored, and in all honesty—open-mindedness and exploration will be demanded.

The same imbalances between mutability and cardinality could manifest between the imbalances between the deepening of psychic emotionality and the actual follow-through of these emotions in action—to participate in the revolution, either personally or collectively.

Kaldera titles the Gemini full moon as the Storyteller’s Moon, a moon that urges us to tell our stories, to rewrite these stories, these stories and beliefs and ‘facts’ that have been conditioned and camouflaged, contaminated and confined as law…

This lunarly event is assigned by Kaldera as a moon which alerts that “it is time to consider what part you play in your life, what archetypes you embody, and how much control you have over changing these roles…” and urges to take the power back, the essence, from deep within the ancient wisdom of it all—the real history, uncovering all the previous rewrites and edits and blatant omissions—to disentangle ourselves from current obstacles and past pain…

It’s all a choice. Always, endlessly, these choices are yours.

There is power in your choice, believe it or not. And these choices run deep, and occur through each day, never-ending…

Gilbert is talking of choice, too—you can choose to entertain an idea that comes knocking, or you can dismiss it… and this is assuming consciousness, as she supports—so “many will not even notice…”

And this, too, is a choice.

This ecliptic lunar event is asking you to make a choice—a real and solid, and concretely conscious choice… to take this idea on, to support it, to honor it, to find a balance within it, and to sustain it; to fully own this choice, no excuses, no anxieties, no bullshit—where there’s a will, there’s always a way. Bullshit excuses be damned.

And this is a choice. It’s your choice.

❝I’ve spent my entire life in devotion to creativity, and along the way I’ve developed a set of beliefs about how it works—and how to work with it—that is entirely and unapologetically based upon magical thinking. And when I refer to magic here, I mean it literally. I am referring to the supernatural, the mystical, the inexplicable, the surreal, the divine, the transcendent, the otherworldly. Because the truth is, I believe that creativity is a force of enchantment, not entirely human in its origins…❞
——Elizabeth Gilbert

Two details of significance through this eclipsed lunar event is that: the sun is tightly conjunct the fixed star Antares at 9° Sagittarius—a star associated with the difficulties of transitions, survival, taking a stand, and resisting complacency—and the moon is tightly conjunct the fixed star Aldebaran, at 9° Gemini—a star known as ‘God’s eye’, and thereby somewhat destined or fated in its influence.

Further, Antares associates itself with intensity and extremes, by choice or not… this star may influence the discovery of “one’s salvation [lying] in becoming strongly focused on a goal… [through] a gift of intensity which gives meaning to life.”

Further still, Aldebaran associates itself with ‘integrity at all times’, that success would come only through “ethical integrity”… considering “all exchanges as sacred… insisting on honesty and purity.” As a rising star in this placement, Aldebaran holds “strong principles and beliefs which will, however, be challenged… success and personal strength coming from the ability to live by one’s principles.”

❝The Yogic path is about disentangling the built-in glitches of the human condition, which I’m going to over-simply define here as the heartbreaking inability to sustain contentment. Different schools of thought over the centuries have found different explanation for man’s apparently inherently flawed state. Taoists call it imbalance, Buddism calls it ignorance, Islam blames our misery on rebellion against God, and the Judeo-Christian tradition attributes all our suffering to original sin. Freudians say that unhappiness is the inevitable result of the clash between our natural drives and civilization’s needs. The Yogis, however, say that human discontentment is a simple case of mistaken identity. We’re miserable because we think that we are mere individuals, alone with our fears and flaws and resentments and mortality. We wrongly believe that our limited little egos constitute our whole entire nature. We have failed to recognize our deeper divine character. We don’t realize that, somewhere within us all, there does exist a supreme Self who is eternally at peace. That supreme Self is our true identity, universal and divine. Before you realize this truth, say the Yogis, you will always be in despair, a notion nicely expressed in this exasperated line from the Greek stoic philosopher Epictetus: ‘You bear God within you, poor wretch, and know it not.’❞
——Elizabeth Gilbert

Despite my inexperience in working directly with the fixed stars consistently, I wonder if you might experience some sort of necessary epiphany—one which may even support a much needed shift or inculcate a balancing toward whatever imbalance you’re navigating…

However, it is likely that whatever epiphany or insight bemuses you now will be nothing new, really—meaning: existing within an inner realm of previous knowing or through resisted skill or untapped talent… but more intimately connected to that which you’ve been struggling with or stammering over for some time.

Still, these eclipse energies—with the extended and over-reaching emphasis of mutability—should determine you to (finally) make a move toward your ideals: honestly and appropriately.

Perhaps this is all that’s necessary to rebalance?—this shift.

Ultimately, this eclipse will empower you to stand tall and break out from any molds of complacency you’ve found yourself living within—which will likely be within the sector of your life where Gemini and Sagittarius are found within your nativity.

I offer you several questions to ponder and explore honestly…

What beliefs or perspectives of mine are currently being challenged, triggered, or rewarded?

How can I shift this belief or perspective?—how can I further enhance this?

What is the origin of this belief or perspective?

Truly, our choices are derived, naturally and inevitably, from past choices, past experiences, and past conditioning… but these past tenses are just that—tensions—the real magic will be in remembering the power in your consciousness, the power in your choices, and choosing to magically and metaphorically lift this weight up and off your shoulders, to take your power back through your choices, and through your ideas, and take a personal responsibility in this process—this process of realistically magical thinking.

Today will be about feeling the reality of something, or of all things, of seeing things clearly—for better and worse—and there is profound power in this.

❝The philosopher Odo Marquard has noted a correlation in the German language between the word zwei, which means ‘two,’ and the word zweifel, which means ‘doubt’—suggesting that two of anything brings the automatic possibility of uncertainty to our lives. Now imagine a life in which every day a person is presented with not two or even three but dozens of choices, and you can begin to grasp why the modern world has become, even with all its advantages, a neurosis-generating machine of the highest order. In a world of such abundant possibility, many of us simply go limp from indecision. Or we derail our life’s journey again and again, backing up to try the doors we neglected on the first round, desperate to get it right this time. Or we become compulsive comparers—always measuring our lives against some other person’s life, secretly wondering if we should have taken her path instead.❞
——Elizabeth Gilbert

Today is a day to consciously confront this—what choices can you make to empower yourself, your thoughts, and your potential?

Envision where you want to be at this time, and make a choice to think magically, unapologetically, and realistically, and to embrace an open-mindedness to honestly receive the ideas that are—and will be—willing to knock upon the door of your consciousness… the very ideas that will assist you in getting from here—to where you want to be.

Because it’s been said that the entire universe—and thereby our humbled, imbalanced, wondrous, magical, and awe-induced existence—all of it began with a single idea…

❝You can receive your ideas with respect and curiosity, not with drama or dread.

You can dare to be pleased sometimes with what you have created—and if a project doesn’t work out, you can always think of it as having been a worthwhile and constructive experiment.

You can resist the seductions of grandiosity, blame, and shame.

You can support other people in their creative efforts, acknowledging the truth that there’s plenty of room for everyone.

You can measure your worth by your dedication to your path, not by your successes or failures.

You can battle your demons—through therapy, recovery, prayer or humility—instead of battling your gifts—in part by realising that your demons were never the ones doing the work anyhow.

You can believe that you are neither a slave to inspiration nor its master, but something far more interesting—its partner—and that the two of you are working together towards something intriguing and worthwhile.

You can live a long life, making and doing really cool things the entire time. You might earn a living with your pursuits or you might not, but you can recognise that this is not really the point.

And at the end of your days, you can thank creativity for having blessed you with a charmed, interesting, passionate existence. That’s another way to do it. Totally up to you.❞
