CULTIVATING COMPASSION

CULTIVATING COMPASSION

Forecast for Monday, January 18th
Aries Crescent Moon

ॐOracular Mantra—seeking inner security demands inner strength…

Today’s revved up Aries moon connects to Chiron in conjunction through a degree that associates itself with “the emotional desire for concrete and stabilized existence as a person… this desire for individualization operates at first as a one-pointed or one-sided drive focusing itself upon an exclusive goal…” a ‘one-sided urge for inner stability’.

❝If there is one thing I’ve learned in my years on this planet, it’s that the happiest and most fulfilled people I’ve known are those who devote themselves to something bigger and more profound than merely their own self-interest.❞
——John Glenn

Goals, in essence, are just that: one-sided urges for inner stability.

Inner stability requires inner willpower to sustain itself, though, contrarily to popular misapplied belief—this special, sacred stability requires more than willpower alone.

It requires cooperative participation with our own very protected, projected realities, but also—cooperation with Other.

❝You need to learn how to select your thoughts just the same way you select your clothes every day. That’s a power you can cultivate. If you want to control things in your life so bad, work on the mind. That’s the only thing you should be trying to control.❞
——Elizabeth Gilbert

Author David DeSeno writes that gratitude, compassion, and pride also share a pivotal part in this powerful process. DeSeno explains that gratitude largely lends itself to compassion, which both, in turn, morph into the ability to be humble… which allows pride to remain healthy, rather than hubric—which is called authenticity.

Specifically, self-compassion—which is “compassion directed at oneself” and has been found to be motivating, inspires perseverance, and even high self-esteem… within oneself—but also, reflectively, toward and through Other.

DeSeno writes that “we can encourage authentic pride in ourselves and others by recognizing the importance of a growth mindset: the belief that we learn from our mistakes and that effort matters—praising others who show effort—rather than simply success—can help protect them against hubris, as well.”

Continued, “cultivating these states in ourselves will increase our motivation to act in ways that benefit others, including our own future selves.”

Learning to love yourself—it’s a big damn deal, folks.
