Pisces Last Quarter Moon at 1°39′
—May 22
This year’s Piscean last quarter moon occurs quite abruptly within the degrees of Pisces—because the sun has only just recently moved into Gemini from Taurus…
Further, a retrograded Mercury is in conjunction with the sun today by a degree—as the sun and Mercury met in an inferior conjunction yesterday through the zero point degree of Gemini—and thereby truly oxygenating geminian airs.
Allow me to delineate.
Squares represent tensions and a need for adjustments, while mutability suggests an easy enough ability to be flexible, or otherwise needed toward flexibility.
Both Gemini and Pisces energies are cooperative toward change—in fact, one could argue that these energies sort of crave change, or seek it out… depending upon your nativity, however, will determine how you might need to manage these dubiously nebulous adjustments… or (un)necessary busyness.
Further, Jupiter—Pisces’ traditional ruler—is newly in Aries while Mercury—Gemini’s ruler—is retrograde, and now moving back into Taurus…
Just this basic information informs one that whatever changes or adjustments that could arise—there may be no time to think anything thoroughly through, but rather, you’ll likely be ‘taken by the tide’ or ‘carried by the current’… this could cause some frustration, perhaps, as many of you might prefer to think things more thoroughly through, and there could be reason for this—yet there is simply too much going on, too much to do, or too much to try to make sense of.
Further still, you could be finding yourself in brand new territory harkening entirely new experiences or environments.
Yesterday’s sun/Mercury inferior conjunction occurred through the zero point degree of Gemini, a degree that associates itself to ‘a new dimension of reality’, and this is to refer to a new insight upon a consciousness not previously known, or understood—a consciousness ‘outside’ one’s own consciousness… astrologer Dane Rudhyar speaks of discovery being a process these energies deserve, that there is a translucency of a psychic kind being offered—of course this is not to imply that psychic abilities will be so freely obtained; however, seemingly unlikely insights could be offered and received—should one be open to receiving in the manner meant to be received.
This translucency, also, is not to imply such clear clarity… and Rudhyar says as much, that it is “not direct openness…” but a potential personal revelation nevertheless—again, revelations that you would not typically otherwise entertain, be open for, or even notice.
The degree through which today’s Piscean last quarter moon is illuminating is one which represents self-protection.
Rudhyar titled this degree with the phrase ‘a squirrel hiding from hunters’, noting that “the individual’s need both to ensure his future subsistence and to protect himself from aggressive social elements” is the essence of this degree… in circling back around to all the busyness and need for adjustments, the sudden insights, the potential for revelations—and the probability of being carried along with almost a literal current—there is indeed reason to protect oneself while simultaneously seeking to both abundantly sustain and simply maintain oneself.
I’m not sure I’m a fan of the reference to hiding, exactly, as there are many other proactive ways in which one can protect oneself from more realistically personalized probabilities of risk… though the tendency through either Geminian or Piscean energies can suggest distraction or confusion, respectively.
Still. This is the time to take a moment—not to hide—and really take it all in, and ask yourself all of the important and pertinent questions… and to be curious—and curiosity never minds a little distraction or a smudge of confusion, curiosity isn’t interested in whether an idea is ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ necessarily—because curiosity is absolutely flexible and changeable, malleable, and adjustable… and sometimes that’s simply how the current of curiosity is carried.
❝The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existence. One cannot help but be in awe when he contemplates the mysteries of eternity, of life, of the marvelous structure of reality. It is enough if one tries merely to comprehend a little of this mystery each day.❞
