★Oracular Overview—the element of surprise need not be debilitating…

It is the humbling and gracious duty of a comedian to pinpoint a trending collective truth, or shadow, and jab it in a way that invokes humor through the directly insightful acknowledging of it by way of a new lens…

Psychologically speaking, this may be a most clever effort in defensive mechanisms… but it works.

❝The human race has only one really effective weapon and that is laughter.❞
——Mark Twain

A handful of techniques that comedians use include drawing upon real life experiences in which they are able to be more honest, and whimsically candid, which offers the audience a stance in vulnerability, but also personal accountability—the audience typically can’t help but try to relate or empathize with someone exposing their own private closets, much more, on stage.

Once a semblance of trust is established, a comedian often ‘finds the funny in the pain’, playing with their own pain in funny ways through words or parable. From here, a comedian can divulge ‘failings and firsts’, which also open to the audience and invite a connectedness, as we are all brutally familiar with our own experiences—why not open to rearranging the way we think of them through the hilarious exploitations of comedic insight?!

❝You can tell the most terrible truths if you first open the human heart with humor.❞
——Marina Abramović

A talented comedian is capable of animating mundanity… twisting and turning commonplace narratives into outrageous possibilities, and one of the ways they’re able to pull this off is through the art of misdirection.

Misdirection is accomplished through “arousing the absorbed interest of a spectator in some object, person, or idea away from the main method, during those moments in which the performer makes the secret sleight (or subterfuge), thus making possible its undetected execution…” magicians use this ‘trick’ all the time, toward a visual platform—comedians utilize this technique through our inner mechanics of thought processing.

In other words—the element of surprise need not be debilitating.

Also, remember that whatever potentially comedic opportunity you’re involved in—you’re involved willingly, yes?

❝Humor is what happens when we’re told the truth quicker and more directly than we’re used to.❞
——George Saunders

Today may present to you a twist or turn, a misdirection of sorts, a surprise… a seemingly forced or pinpointed decision may be asked of you, a decision which allows only up or down, left or right, here or there, that way or this way…

Much more, Venus in Cancer is opposing Pluto in Capricorn, amidst of all the Uranian vibrations, and is thereby attempting to shift an intensely dramatic imbalance between up and down, left and right, here and there, that way and this… much, much more—pulling at both heart strings and the riggings of reality as you perceive it to be.

The degree through which this opposition occurs associates itself with the idea that “the individual operates both as an objective mind and an emotional participant in the events and hopes of his day…”

❝Humor is perhaps a sense of intellectual perspective: an awareness that some things are really important, others not; and that the two kinds are most oddly jumbled in everyday affairs.❞
——Christopher Morley

Not unlike watching a comedian shamelessly delivering a straightforward statement toward a really squishy sore spot—the comedian is not aiming for the audience personally—you need not react defensively… it is all but a matter of perspective—and much more, making the effort to see something from the perspective of an/Other.

An experienced comedian also «uses» tension… rather than becoming distracted by it or defensive in reaction to it.

Though perhaps the most effective technique a comedian can use—and I will not be able to resist repeating the advocacy of this throughout the next few months—over-preparedness… as any comedian will tell you, ‘proper planning prevents poor performance’.

❝A clear vision, backed by definite plans, gives you a tremendous feeling of confidence and personal power.❞
——Brian Tracy

❝The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun.❞
